Capital City Fire Rescue’s CARES Mobile Integrated Healthcare – Paramedic team is new to CBJ. We are still developing many aspects of the program, and this is an opportunity to not only provide care and make a difference in people’s lives, but also a chance to build and direct the program itself. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a paramedic who has experience working in EMS at the paramedic level, is self-disciplined, self-motivated, and capable of working with a minimum of supervision and oversite. Individual must demonstrate patience and compassion in working with Juneau’s most vulnerable populations. The individual who fills this role must be able to set schedule for daily activities, while simultaneously coordinating appointments and referrals for clients.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works approximately 40 hours per week. Office is located in Auke Bay Fire Station, at 11900 Glacier Highway.
Job Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Under general direction of the CARES Program Manager, this position provides healthcare for Capital City Fire Rescue in the less acute and non-emergent arena. This position will work to enhance public health and safety by providing alternatives to emergency services for persons with non-emergent needs, in order to decompress the ambulance and hospital services. This position must be capable of providing emergency medical care at the paramedic level, while also assisting patients with non-emergent referrals and medical needs.
Daily duties will include in-home welfare checks and assessments, assisting with scheduling appointments for medical care, and providing transportation to scheduled appointments. Additionally, this position will advocate for patients, assisting them with access to other available services both in and outside of our community. The MIH paramedic will work closely with Capital City Fire Rescue’s Sponsoring Physician, as well as patient’s Primary Care Providers, and the CARES Program Manager, in determining the direction of patient’s medical care and needs.
This position will work very closely with the CARES MIH EMT positions, which assist the MIH Paramedic on complex calls, and work independently on less complex calls.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School graduation or possession of a GED certificate.
Other: Not less than 19 years of age at time of appointment.
A valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
At time of appointment either:
- License as a State of Alaska Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic; OR
- Certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as a Paramedic, OR
- Equivalent licensure in another state, province or territory. (Note: appointment will be made conditionally pending successfully completion of the written and practical examination for emergency medical technician-paramedic administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians by date of appointment.)
The employee must be able to receive and continue to maintain licensure as a State of Alaska Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic to perform the duties of this position.
