Capital City Fire Rescue has overseen the CARES program for its fourth year. While continuing to expand our scope to increasingly help our community, we are simultaneously providing training and opportunities to grow for our employees. CARES works as a team. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for EMTs, or those who would like to become an EMT, with experience working with vulnerable populations and who enjoy serving and working for the public. Patience and compassion in working with Juneau’s most vulnerable populations is essential. If this is you, and you are able to work well both independently and as part of a team, then come join the CARES team at Capital City Fire Rescue.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works 12 hour shifts, or partial shifts, as often as once a week or as needed, depending on schedule and availability. Shift hours are 8:00 AM – 8:00PM or 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM and are scheduled 7 days a week. Work location is based out of the CARES Sobering Center located at St. Vincent De Paul.
Job Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
This position is the basic entry-level into the Community Assistance Response & Emergency Services section within the Fire Department. Under the general direction of the CARES Program Manager, you will respond to calls for service treating our most vulnerable populations that are suffering the impacts of drug and alcohol abuse. This position operates CARES transport vehicles, or ambulances, and works both independently and with other emergency medical services personnel. After assessing the general condition of impaired, ill, or injured individuals, you will provide care and transportation to the most appropriate facility. When transported to the Sobering Center, monitoring and reassessing is an essential part of duties. Those in this position will be provided with the opportunity and training to achieve their EMT I certification, if they are not already certified.
Minimum Qualifications
COMMUNITY HEALTH ETT MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School graduation or a valid GED certificate.
Other: Not less than 18 years of age at time of appointment.
A valid Alaska Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
Certification(s): Valid Emergency Trauma Technician Certification at time of appointment and for continued employment.*
Certification as a State of Alaska Emergency Medical Technician I or higher within one year of appointment.
Note: Employees must advance from the Emergency Trauma Technician level to the Emergency Medical Technician I level once they obtain the required certifications, meet performance standards, and meet minimum qualifications of the higher level.
Note: *Department may provide ETT Certification training to the applicant upon receipt of conditional job offer.
