Youth Shelter Supervisor
Full Time 37.5 hours per week $26.10 - $27.91 Hourly (DOQ)

We’re looking for someone who has an understanding of how historical trauma and systemic inequities impact our community today and someone who is willing to continue to learn about these topics. We are looking for someone who is reliable, has excellent organizational skills and is able to create processes that ensure requirements are consistently met in the facility.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position will be located at Shéiyi X̱aat Hít youth shelter in the Mendenhall valley area of Juneau. The position will primarily work M-F 8am -4pm however the applicant should expect occasional evening and weekend work, especially as they settle into the position and learn all aspects of the program.
Job Responsibilities
This position oversees the day to day operations of a 6 bed emergency shelter serving runaway and homeless youth ages 10-18. You will be hiring, training, and supervising shelter staff. Working with the Manager, you will make sure that all grant and licensing requirements are met at the shelter at all times. You will oversee the coordination of services for youth and help staff debrief and brainstorm tricky situations. You will help create a culture of providing supportive services to youth and families without judgment and with empathy and understanding. You will manage the schedule for a 24hour shift staffed facility. You will work with partners in the community to help provide services to run away and homeless youth. You will review all intake and discharge paperwork to be sure it is done well and complete and the information is tracked appropriately. You will work with staff to create healthy skill building activities for youth and help youth to communicate their needs. You may help resolve disputes at times.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Thirty (30) semester hours of college credit in a human services field.
Substitution: Relevant experience may substitute for the required education on a case by case basis and approved by the Alaska Department of Health & Social Services, Division of Health Care Services. *Reciprocity for experience will be reviewed when a conditional offer is made. (7 AAC 50.230)
Experience: Two years of experience in a human service occupation.
And One year of supervising or leading employees (may be concurrent with experience above)
Human Service Examples: social worker, case manager, youth advocate, behavioral health assistant, counselor, social services outreach coordinator, probation officer, and youth worker.
Licensure: CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment.
Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.
NOTE: Must have the ability to receive designation as an Associate Administrator to maintain licensing as a residential child care facility.
Under Alaska Statute 12.62.400 (9) Appointment to this position is offered conditionally, pending the results of a National Criminal History report through the FBI. Applicants must submit their fingerprints to continue in the hiring approval process. The applicant will receive a copy of the report of findings and may dispute within 5 days of receiving them. Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors. Applicants who materially misrepresent any information provided in the employment process will be excluded from further consideration or may be dismissed if already employed.
