Senior Equipment Operator

Full Time 40 Hours per week $31.46- $33.56 Hourly (DOQ)

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position involves shift work that includes days, nights, weekends, holidays and being on-call. Additionally, this position also requires recalls for emergencies and weather events.

Job Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Senior Equipment Operators have supervisory responsibility of the Street Maintenance work force with regard to maintenance activities, snow removal and ice control measures. They create work assignments for the Streets work force and act as the safety officer. The Senior Equipment Operator will maintain inventory control and records on equipment, parts, tools and materials and monitor equipment usage. They will assist management with the scheduling of the Street Maintenance work force, maintain accountability of the work force during daily operations and, assist with management of the Streets Maintenance division’s training plan.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Four (4) years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadways, bridges, airport runways, taxiways, ramps and/or aprons with demonstrated ability to operate motor graders, rotary snowplows, backhoes, excavators, and bulldozers.  This experience must have included on-site supervision and training of other operators.

Other: A valid Class “A” State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License valid for vehicles equipped with air brakes and a Tanker (N) endorsement at time of application and for continued employment.

Certification as an ATSSA Flagger (or equivalent) within 6 months of appointment and for continued employment.

 

 

OSHA Requirements:  This position may also require attendance at and certification (as available) in CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space Entrant and/or attendant within 18 months of appointment.

Special Notes

Special Note:      *Initial appointment to all FMCSA positions requiring a CDL will be made conditionally pending (1) receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances and (2) passing a 3 year drug & alcohol testing background check with previous DOT employers. Employees must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the driver’s Clearinghouse record. Employee will then be subject to the City and Borough’s drug-testing program.  https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/Register

NOTE:  This position will require shift work, overtime, call-outs, work on Saturdays/Sundays/Holidays and odd shift hours.
