Network Specialist I
Full Time 37.5 hours per week $61,347- $65,442 Annually (DOQ)

Management Information Systems (MIS) is a service and support department of the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ). We are dedicated to serving and maintaining the technology needs to all members of CBJ and strive to provide an excellent technical environment in which to function. We are a close, good natured and dedicated group. We work well together and take pride in our ability to find solutions to all technical challenges.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works (Monday through Friday) 7.5 hours per day. Your start and finish times will be between 7:30am – 8:30am and your finish time will match accordingly between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. Your office would be located in downtown Juneau in City Hall.
Job Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Monitor network traffic and equipment for performance, stability, and/or outages. Troubleshoot and resolve issues when needed. Maintain baselines for reporting and for predicting future problems. Monitors the availability and performance of key network services. Addresses outages or performance concerns. These services include, but are not limited to, layers 1 and 2 basic connectivity, layer 3 routing within CBJ networks, and general cyber threat detection resources.
Perform primary administration and maintenance of switching equipment and routers within CBJ networks. Will be the primary resource for basic connectivity end user requests.
Perform primary administration, maintenance, and configuration of specialty VLAN network segregation on CBJ networks. This includes, but is not limited to, SCADA, Point Of Sale, and VOIP VLAN network segregation and performance.
Provide support for Active Directory, ensures domain controllers are functioning efficiently. Will assist the Network Specialist II with Active Directory and user and computer management. Will work with network specialist II in the maintenance, administration, and development of GPO’s.
Address custom application user requests in coordination with other MIS staff.
Address general helpdesk requests in cooperation with the computer support specialists.

Minimum Qualifications
DO I HAVE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB – OUR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One (1) year of technical experience in computer or telecommunications support that included network maintenance and troubleshooting duties.
Substitution: Two (2) years of post-secondary education from an accredited college with a major in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Information Systems or closely related field will substitute for the required experience.
Other: Some positions may require a current Alaska Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment. This position is subject to a background check that will include a fingerprinting and a criminal background review. Based on task assignments, a background check may also require a credit check.
