We are looking for someone who:

- Has strong verbal and written communication skills

- Is able to maintain good written procedures, and propose process improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency of the duties
- Is comfortable communicating by e-mail, phone, and in person
- Has excellent computer skills and is knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel as well as Adobe Acrobat
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK ON OUR TEAM
As the Accounts Receivable Supervisor, you will serve a key role in the 17-member Treasury team working in a fast-paced, open-office environment that experiences frequent interruptions all while providing exceptional customer service. You will interact with various sub-groups in the Treasury division and throughout CBJ, as well as mentor your direct report. In response to COVID19, you will experience a heavy emphasis on electronic document sharing and storage, learning new processes and modernizing procedures with new technology. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works Monday through Friday 8am – 4:30pm. Your office would be located in downtown Juneau on the first floor of City Hall. Some overtime hours may be required in June for tax billing, or other times, when needed. The occurrence is infrequent.
Job Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
As the Accounts Receivable Supervisor, you will be managing the day-to-day operations of Accounts Receivable including one full-time person who manages the civil citation and parking ticket billing. You will be producing accurate, timely invoices and statements for a wide variety of services and departments, including CBJ’s annual property tax billing. Your oversight and backup for civil citation and parking ticket billing will include filling in during absences.
You will be maintaining customer master records, generating customer invoices, and managing several monthly recurring invoice batches. You will also be reviewing the accounts and aging reports, making inquiries and adjustments, issuing refunds, and adding penalties and interest on delinquent accounts. On an annual basis in June, you will be taking the lead on generating over 13,000 property tax bills. Then subsequent to property tax billing, you will be responsible for processing all tax adjustments calculated by the Assessor’s Office and issuing adjusted tax bills.
You will be fielding a variety of inquiries from the public and billing departments whether by e-mail, phone, or in person and will need to quickly perform the necessary research to provide complete and accurate responses while maintaining composure in the face of conflict. You will be working closely with other teams in the Treasury division to ensure accurate posting of payments and collection of delinquent accounts. You will be preparing monthly reconciliations of the billing subsystems to the general ledger along with general ledger entries to correct invalid entries or errors and to clear out clearing accounts.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School graduation or the equivalent.
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively technical accounting experience. Two (2) years of technical accounting experience must have been at the Accounting Technician I or higher within the City & Borough of Juneau or the equivalent elsewhere.*
Substitution: Four (4) business related courses from an accredited college may substitute for one (1) year of the progressively technical accounting experience on the basis of 3 semester/4 quarter hours per class.*
*Transcripts that indicate the credit hours earned for the specific course work will need to be included with the CBJ application.
