Pool Supervisor II

Full Time 37.5 Hours per week $27.36- $29.17 Hourly (DOQ)

Job Responsibilities

Under general direction, assists the Aquatics Manager in the operation, maintenance and management of the City swimming pool(s); primarily Dimond Park Aquatic Center - a 215 guest capacity facility which hosts an 8 lane x 25 yard lap lane pool, a recreation pool which includes a 15 yard x 3 lane small pool, current channel, 5 spray features, 2 water slides, a hot tub, sauna, a variety of fitness equipment, 3 meter and 1 meter diving boards along with 3 rental rooms for events/birthday parties. Incumbent is responsible for all facility operations. This is a supervisory job class with responsibility for planning and managing an assigned facility and programs.

Typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Plans, develops, and conducts in-service training programs for lifeguards/swim instructors and other staff. Ensures Dimond Park Aquatic Center staff certifications are up to date.
  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aquatic certifications and trainings for the Aquatics Division.
  • Plans, coordinates, and schedules lifeguard training certification courses and instructors for public and re-certification courses for current staff. Instructs courses at least once annually and as needed.
  • Plans, coordinates and schedules First Aid/CPR/AED certification courses for staff and public participants. Instructs courses as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:       High School or Equivalent.

Experience:     Three (3) years of experience in Aquatic Programs that includes one and a half (1.5) years of experience    supervising.

Substitution:    Post-secondary education from an accredited college may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 2.5 semester hours (3.75 quarter hours) of education for one month of experience up to 12 months. There is no substitution for the one and a half years of supervisory experience.

Certifications: Valid Alaska Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

AND

At time of appointment & for continued employment valid certificates in:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard (includes First Aid/CPR/AED); or equivalent.
  • National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool Operator; or equivalent.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.

Special Notes

NOTE:               As part of the selection process, applicants are required to be finger printed to determine if prior convictions exist that would prohibit them from performing the duties and responsibilities of this position.  The applicant’s continued employment is based on the approval of the finger print report.  Finger printing results can take from 3 – 6 months.
