Job Responsibilities

This position develops a trails management plan for Eaglecrest Ski area that includes; design improvements on existing trails, maintenance and new trail development. This position will enhance the Eaglecrest winter and summer trail users’ enjoyment through summer clearing, glading and maintenance. Establish and develop summer trail routes to protect the alpine environment. Assist with off season lift maintenance, facilities repair, minor construction, general ski area maintenance and First Aid/Search & Rescue items when needed.

 

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Develops an Alpine trails management plan with assistance from General Manager & management team that encompasses the different seasonal uses of the trail system at Eaglecrest; primary factors are to identify and establish a maintenance rotation schedule for winter trails to improve quality and potentially enable trail use with minimal snowpack, Summer trail maintenance and development will focus on preservation of the alpine environment.
  • Utilize understanding of Eaglecrest winter traffic patterns to improve skier experience with trail enhancements through various methods including: brushing, glade creation, tree limbing, log/stump removal, rock removal and drainage improvements.
  • Performs summer trail improvements including routing changes to protect alpine environment, deconstruction of old plank trail hazards, surface conditioning and drainage improvements.
  • Coordinates with the General Manager and Director of Mountain operations to prepare and make recommendations to the annual operating budget and capital improvement budget for assigned area of responsibility; monitors and controls budgets.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools including chainsaws, brush cutters, come-along/block and tackle and some small heavy equipment usage. Maintains a good situational awareness to provide a safe work environment for all.
  • Provides assistance with off-season lift maintenance, facilities repair, minor construction and general ski area maintenance items when needed.
  • Manages a team of paid trail crew workers and various volunteers to perform their jobs in an efficient and safe manner. Supervisory duties include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work and completing performance reviews at the end of the season and training plans for new hires. May write letters of reprimand or commendation as necessary or when needed.
  • Develops a high degree of professionalism in personal appearance, attitude, mountain safety patrol knowledge, and guest service; provides safety information to Eaglecrest guests. Provide emergency first aid services as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:       No education required.

 

Experience:     Two (2) years of experience in landscape design, construction and/or maintenance. This must include at least one (1) year of supervising/leading the work of others.

 

Certification:  Must possess a valid Alaska Driver’s license at time of appointment and for continued employment.

 

Current Alaska EMT-1 Certification at time of appointment and for continued employment.

 

Current Professional Rescuer CPR w/AED certification at time of appointment and for continued employment.
