Management Information Systems is a service and support division for the CBJ Administration department. We are dedicated to serving and maintaining the technology needs of all members of CBJ. Technology is an integral part of our environment affecting all facets of work. MIS staff strives to provide all of CBJ with an excellent technical environment in which to function. The mission of the Management Information Systems is to provide optimal technology services for the City & Borough of Juneau.
At the CBJ we have three IT divisions. We are an IT department that includes programmers, desktop support, network support, and GIS technician positions. We are an open group and encourage knowledge sharing throughout our organization. Our largest group is MIS, but we also have IT groups in both the library and our police department. We work openly amongst each other as systems are becoming more and more integrated. The CBJ has roughly 1000 employees and technology touches everyone. Our goal is to make the delivery of technology to our end users as seamless as possible.

Job Responsibilities
POSITION OVERVIEW
Programmer Analyst II is a professional level classification where work is performed independently under general direction. This position will primarily administer and care for our Finance systems (Harris Govern and Infor Lawson). Strong SQL, systems analysis, and user support skills are a must. Additional skills needed for this position are: Experience working with business process and financial systems, Windows environments, Windows OS management, html, .net, Crystal Reports, and scripting; experience with and the ability to adapt to new programming languages and scripting tools such as Visual Basic, Power Shell, Python, C, and Cobol.
Typical responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Receives inquiries from users or potential users as to capabilities of hardware systems and existing software; assesses needs of users; recommends program designs and routines responding to needs.
- Designs complex programs in consultation with users and peers; integrates and adapts to internal business processes and software.
- Writes program specifications. Codes and debugs programs.
- Installs and tests software & hardware systems
- In consultation with users and programming peers, determines security requirements/develops methods and solutions.
- Writes and maintains system documentation and user manuals.
- Designs and conducts training programs and system demonstrations as to the use and application of systems, programs and hardware.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in computer programming which includes the creation, maintenance, or modification of computer applications.
Substitution: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Information Systems, Business Administration or related field will substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
OR
Substitution: College level courses in computer sciences may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two semester hours (three quarter hours) of credit for one month of experience up to a maximum of 9 months.
