Youth Development Program Coordinator (BAM Afterschool Program)

Full Time 37.5 hours per week $24.18 - $25.82 Hourly (DOQ)

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with youth and coordinating with community partners and volunteers. Someone who both enjoys working in schools and developing and leading summer camps. We are looking for someone who is self-directed, takes initiative, and is flexible.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position works M-F. Office location is at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School during the school year and is based out of Zach Gordon Youth Center in the summer. Hours are approx. 9-5.

 

Job Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

This position coordinates the Body and Mind (BAM) afterschool program during the school year and supports programming at the Zach Gordon You Center during the summer months. The position provides day to day supervision of staff and volunteers and coordinates closely with partner organizations to provide afterschool activities through the BAM program in two Juneau middle schools.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or the equivalent; First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment; and, any combination of experience or post-secondary education totaling one year that includes volunteering or working with youth, education, job readiness, employment skills, caregiving or achieving healthy behaviors and developing healthy life style choices.

Substitution: Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in the social, behavior, or health sciences, law, or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on the basis of 2.5 semester hours (3.75 quarter hours) for one (1) month of experience (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours is equivalent to 1 year).

Licenses:              Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

Body & Mind Outreach Coordinator

NOTE:  School District Board Policy 3028 - Additional authority for those who volunteer for the School District such as those involved with the Body & Mind after school program held in the Juneau schools.  The School District has created a Policy that broadly applies the authority to anybody who works in the school district because of the possibility of being alone with a child.  Generally, those volunteering at the Juneau School district are not FBI fingerprinted because they are under the direct supervision of an employee.  At the CBJ the volunteers ARE independently supervising minors and therefore a FBI fingerprint background check is required.
