JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Groundskeeper Assistant

Part Time Limited Up to 37.5 hours per week $19.72 Hourly

Job Responsibilities

Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of duties relating to the CBJ-maintained Jensen-Olson Arboretum. This includes planting, seeding, watering, pruning, and weeding the arboretum grounds.

Typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Edges, rakes, thatches, aerates and fertilizes turf areas.
  • Weeds, deadheads, waters, divides, transplants, fertilizes, mulches, and composts flower beds.
  • Prunes, waters, and fertilizes shrubs and trees.
  • Plants flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Creates new garden and turf areas by felling and removing existing vegetation, adding fill, grading, tilling, mixing, and raking soil.
  • Propagates and tends flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • May assist in the minor repair and maintenance of equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Other: Not less than 18 years of age; AND Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License at time of appointment and for continued employment.

Special Notes

NOTE: Those with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply: education and 2+ years’ experience in large-scale gardening and landscaping; plant identification, garden pest and disease identification; comfort interacting with adult and youth visitors and volunteers.
