Case or Incident: #2023-07290039
On July 29th, 2023, three 17-year-old boys went down the Treadwell Trail in Douglas to the area of the Glory Hole to hike, dive and swim. At about 4:45 p.m., one of the boys called 9-1-1 to report his friend had jumped into the water and did not surface afterward.
Capital City Fire/Rescue was dispatched to the call. The area was searched but responders from CCF/R and Juneau Mountain Rescue were unable to locate the boy. Two JPD officers responded to assist and start an investigation. Access to the platform the boy had jumped from was steep, treacherous and difficult to move through. The search for the boy was ultimately turned over to the Alaska State Troopers.
AST contacted JPD on July 30th at around 2:10 p.m. and advised they had recovered the body of the 17 year old boy. His family was notified. The circumstances surrounding his death are not considered suspicious.
