On 04/23/2023, at about 9:41 a.m., the Juneau Police Department received a report of a man on the roof of the Nugget Mall, waving their arms around.
Responding officers identified the man as 32-year-old Juneau resident, Vance Richard Webster III. Webster began throwing objects from the roof at the responding officers. The objects were determined to be pieces of the building's HVAC unit. Officers contacted Webster on the roof and detained him.
During the investigation, it was learned that Websters had damaged approximately 6-7 of the building's HVAC units, an antenna, and a fan belt. The damages are estimated to cost a few thousand dollars to repair. Additionally, Webster had previously been trespassed from the Nugget Mall and was on conditions of release on six open court cases.
Webster was placed under arrest and taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on the following charges;
- Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, a class C felony
- Violating Conditions of Release, a class A misdemeanor
- Criminal Trespass in the 2nd degree, a class B misdemeanor
