JUNEAU POLICE DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATING IN ALASKA HIDTA INITIATIVE CAMPAIGN
The Juneau Police Department is participating in a statewide advertising campaign designed to help communities partner with law enforcement in the fight against drug trafficking in Alaska.
Recognizing that no single agency can fight this battle alone, the Juneau Police Department joined other participating law enforcement agencies of the Alaska High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, to remove illicit fentanyl and other dangerous drugs from the community of Juneau, and communities throughout Alaska. The Alaska HIDTA program, designated in May 2018, is spread throughout the state, and includes partnerships between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The Juneau Police Department is a participating agency in SEACAD, Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs, a regional task force comprised of municipal police departments, Alaska State Troopers, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, and Coast Guard Investigative Service. SEACAD is part of the HIDTA program, focusing on drug investigations in Southeast Alaska.
In 2022, SEACAD seized over 1.9 million fentanyl pills/dosages coming into Southeast Alaska. For 2023, SEACAD will continue to work together with local, state, and federal law enforcement, as well as community members, to investigate drug importation and distribution in the Southeast Alaska region.
The Juneau Police Department and participating HIDTA law enforcement agencies are encouraging the public to report suspicious drug trafficking activity to AKtips, which can be done quickly online while remaining anonymous. Just download the AKTips smartphone app for iOS or Android. Alternatively, you can submit a tip securely online at the following website: akhidta.org or text the keyword AKTIPS, followed by your crime tip to 847411; Anonymous tips for Juneau can also be made through www.JuneauCrimeLine.com.
