INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Motor Vehicle Crash
Date: 2022-12-08
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #2022-12070058
Summary:

On 12/07/2022, at about 4:19 p.m., JPD received a report of a small 4-door vehicle driving inbound on Egan Drive, in the outbound lane of Egan Drive, at Fred Meyer. At approximately 4:21 p.m., it was reported that the 4-door vehicle struck another vehicle on Egan Drive, near the Egan Drive overpass, by the old Wal-Mart building. JPD and CCFR responded to the crash to assist.

Responding officers learned that the crash involved five vehicles and two of the vehicles were in a head on collision. Initial reports indicated that a maroon 2006 Acura, being driven by 49-year-old male, was travelling inbound in the outbound lane of Egan Drive, which resulted in the crash.  Witnesses reported seeing the Acura driving in the inbound turn lane of Egan Drive, at Fred Meyer. The Acura started to make a left turn at Fred Meyer, but then continued straight into the outbound lane of Egan Drive, where it continued on. In the area of the Egan Drive overpass, near the old Wal-Mart building, the Acura struck head on a white Subaru that was being driven outbound. During the incident, three other vehicles crashed, or were struck by other vehicles, as a result of the Acura.

The driver of the Acura sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to BRH for a medical evaluation. The driver and passenger of the Subaru also sustained injuries, but they are not considered serious at this time. They were transported to BRH for a medical evaluation. An occupant of one of the three additional vehicles sustained minor injuries due to the crash, but they were not transported to BRH.

Following the crash, the outbound lane of Egan Drive was closed down for about three hours, to allow for responders to provide medical treatment and investigate the crash. During that time, outbound vehicle traffic was diverted onto Vanderbilt Hill Road and Glacier Highway.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
