On October 30th, 2022, the Juneau Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency, held a prescription drug take back event at the Juneau Police Department. The event lasted four hours, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. During that time, community members were invited to come to JPD and drop off any unwanted prescription medication for disposal. During Saturday's event, JPD collected 46.5 lbs. of prescription medication. In addition to that, another 139 lbs. of prescription medications have been collected by JPD through the daily prescription medication drop box that is located in the JPD lobby. In total, 185.5 lbs. of prescription medications have been collected since the last prescription drug take back event in May. The medications will be shipped to the Drug Enforcement Agency in Anchorage for disposal.
