On 10/18/2022, at about 12:51 a.m., the Juneau Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle crash on Glacier Highway at Auke Lake. It was reported that a single vehicle, a white Chevrolet pickup, lost control and flipped several times; landing in the lake, where it became fully submerged. JPD and CCFR responded to assist.
Responding officers learned that prior to the crash, the vehicle had been occupied by three males. It is believed that two of the males may have been thrown from the vehicle during the crash. The third occupant, believed to be the driver, is still unaccounted for. The families of the three people who were believed to be occupants of the vehicle, have been notified of the crash.
JPD is still on scene and working to investigate the crash. During this time, Glacier Highway at Auke Lake is being reduced down to one lane. If possible, please avoid this area, as there may be road delays.

CCFR located the white Chevrolet pickup submerged in Auke Lake, in about fourteen feet of water. Divers located the man believed to be the driver of the vehicle, inside, deceased. He has been identified as 19-year-old Juneau resident, Hunter Dayton Fredrick. Next of kin have been notified of death. The body of Hunter Fredrick will be flown to the Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage to determine cause of death.
The passengers of the vehicle have been identified as an 18-year-old male and a 19-year-old male, both Juneau residents. The 18-year-old male and the 19-year-old male left the scene of the crash prior to the arrival of police. JPD was able to confirm that the 19-year-old male went to the hospital for evaluation of injuries, which are believed to be minor. JPD is still attempting to locate the 18-year-old male to determine if he was injured during the crash.
The white Chevrolet pickup was removed from Auke Lake. During the investigation of the crash, Glacier Highway at Auke Lake was closed down to one lane for about three hours. This report is still under investigation.
