INFORMATION RELEASE

On 04/05/2022, at about 2:50 p.m., the Juneau Police Department received a report of several gunshots in the area of the Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei Trail (also known as Brotherhood Bridge Trail), near the Thunder Mountain Highschool (TMHS).

JPD responded to the area to locate the cause of the gunshots. TMHS staff were notified of the incident and due to the close proximity, the school went into lockdown.

Soon after arriving on scene, responding officers located a 38-year-old female in the area of the trail that was believed to be involved in the shooting. At this time there does not appear to be anyone else involved in this incident and there were no reported injuries. A handgun was located on the female.

At about 3:32 p.m., TMHS staff was notified that they could resume normal operations.

The 38-year-old female was detained and brought to JPD for further questioning. The cause of the shooting is currently unknown. This case is still under investigation.

During the course of the investigation, JPD received a call from a family member of the 38-year-old female, reporting the theft of a firearm from their residence. The caller believed the firearm had been stolen by the 38-year-old female.

Following the investigation into the shooting, the 38-year-old female was placed under arrest on the following charges;

• Theft in the 2nd degree, a class C felony
• Misconduct involving weapons in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor
• Misconduct involving weapons in the 5th degree, a class B misdemeanor

The 38-year-old female is identified as Jasmine Marie Miller. Miller was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
