Subject: Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Collision with Pedestrian

Summary:

Update – 03/19/2022

On Friday morning, March 18, 2022, the suspect vehicle, a two-tone silver Dodge truck was located by a patrol sergeant. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle on Crest Street. The driver, 36 year old Randal Benc, was later arrested for Assault in the first degree and Action of Operator After an Accident. He was transported to and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

On 03/17/2022, at about 11:26 p.m., JPD received a report of a motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian in the Foodland parking lot, located at 615 Willoughby Ave. It was reported that the vehicle involved in the collision left the scene afterwards.

JPD and CCFR responded to the scene to assist. Upon arrival, they located the victim of the collision, a 26-year-old male Juneau resident. The male had sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. CCFR transported to the male to the hospital for medical evaluation.

JPD learned that the 26-year-old male had been walking in the Foodland parking lot when he was struck by a vehicle, believed to be a gray or silver colored Dodge pickup.

The 26-year-old male is being medevaced to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Washington. The investigation is ongoing.
