On 03/04/2021, the Juneau Police Department began an investigation regarding an allegation that 72-year-old Walter Joseph Bennett Sr., had sexually abused an 11-year-old female. It was reported that Bennett lived in the household with the victim and the abuse spanned 3-4 years. Following the investigation, the case was referred to the Juneau District Attorney's Office.
On 12/30/2021, a Juneau Grand Jury indicted Bennett on 2 counts of Sexual abuse of a Minor in the first degree, an unclassified felony, and 2 counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the 2nd Degree. A warrant was issued following the indictment for $100,000. On 12/31/2021, Alaska State Troopers arrested Bennett in Juneau on the warrant. Bennett was taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional center.
After the grand jury indicted, an 18-year-old female came forward and reported being sexually abused by Bennett, several years ago, while living in Bennett's home.
