From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell

*** Updated 10/27/2021 ***

JPD has concluded the investigation in this case. It is believed that the 26-year-old male passenger willingly exited the vehicle while it was moving and sustained injuries consistent with a fall. He is currently in stable condition at the Harborview Medical Center and JPD detectives were able to speak with him about the incident. At this time, JPD does not believe the driver of the vehicle knew that the male had sustained injuries when they exited the vehicle. The 22-year-old female driver has been cooperating with police during the investigation and there are no further criminal charges.

On 10/23/2021, at about 1:33 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of an injured male lying in the outbound turn lane of Egan Drive, at the McNugget Intersection. JPD and CCFR responded to the scene and located the injured man, who was unconscious and showed signs he had sustained serious injuries. The man was identified by an identification card he was carrying, as a 26-year-old Juneau resident. The injured male was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

JPD began an investigation into what led the man to be found in the roadway. Officers were able to determine that the injured man had been a passenger in a Ford F-150, which was being driven on Egan Drive by a 22-year-old female Juneau resident. There had been an argument in the vehicle and it is believed the 26-year-old male exited the F-150 while it was still moving, in the area of the McNugget intersection. The driver did not stop, but continued on the roadway. Moments later, a passing motorist saw the injured male in the roadway, stopped and called JPD.

Based off of the preliminary investigation, it is believed the 26-year-old male sustained injuries when exiting the Ford F-150. The male was later medevaced to the Harborview Medical Center due to the seriousness of his injuries. At this time, he is considered to be in stable condition.

The 22-year-old female was arrested for DUI and taken to the jail. She is identified as Honour Miller-Austin.

Alcohol appears to a factor in this case.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
