INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Fatality Motor Vehicle Collision with Pedestrian
Date: 2021-10-01
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #210930-005
Summary:

On 09/30/2021, at about 7:52 PM, the Juneau Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle collision with a pedestrian in the 6520 block of Glacier Highway. JPD and CCFR responded to assist.

The 82-year-old female pedestrian sustained serious life threatening injuries during the collision and was transported to the hospital by EMS. Later that evening, the female was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The area of the roadway where the collision took place was closed down while JPD conducted the investigation. The preliminary investigation showed that the 82-year-old female had just gotten off the bus next to the old Walmart building and was crossing Glacier Highway towards the area of Switzer Village, where she lived. While crossing in the roadway, the female was struck by a white Jeep Cherokee that was travelling outbound on Glacier Highway. The female was reportedly wearing dark clothing and crossing the roadway outside of the crosswalk, in a dimly lit area. The driver of the vehicle, a 49-year-old male Juneau resident, immediately stopped at the scene to check on the female and asked a witness to call 911. The driver of the vehicle did not show any signs of impairment.

Next of kin has been notified and the female pedestrian has been identified as 82-year-old Juneau resident, Gloria Rembulat Endozo.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
