On 09/23/2021, at about 8:09 PM, a Juneau Police Officer was on patrol in the area of Mendenhall Loop Road and Valley Boulevard. The officer was stopped at the intersection on a red light, waiting to turn left onto Valley Boulevard. As the light turned green, the officer waited for oncoming cars to pass through the intersection and then proceeded through the intersection onto Valley Boulevard. During this time, a 17-year-old female pedestrian was walking North on the sidewalk of Mendenhall Loop Road, crossing over Valley Boulevard, when they were struck by the patrol vehicle travelling through the intersection.
The officer immediately stopped at the scene to attend to the pedestrian and called for medical services to respond. Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to conduct a medical evaluation, but the pedestrian did not require transportation to the hospital. It was reported that the pedestrian sustained minor injuries during the collision.
