INFORMATION RELEASE

On 09/04/2021, at about 8:49 PM, the Juneau Police Department received multiple calls regarding two vehicles involved in a chase in the area of the Mendenehall Valley, which ended in a collision on Haloff Way. JPD responded to the scene and contacted all parties involved. Following an investigation, 30-year-old Ranee Aki was arrested for two counts of Assault in the 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree and Reckless Endangerment; some of the criminal charges are related to domestic violence. Aki was taken to the jail and held without bail.

It is alleged that the initial chase began in the area of Mall Road, when a 2019 Nissan Altima, driven by Ranee Aki, pursued after a 2012 Nissan Frontier, being driven by 30-year-old male. A 19-year-old female passenger was also in the Nissan Frontier. The chase continued onto Egan Drive, then onto to Riverside Drive and back to the area of Haloff Way. During the chase, multiple collisions occurred between the Nissan Altima and the Nissan Frontier. The chased ended on Haloff Way, after the Nissan Frontier became disabled.

One of the witnesses to the chase followed the vehicles while making a report to JPD on 911. After the vehicles came to a stop on Haloff Way, the driver of the witness vehicle was concerned that the Nissan Altima was going to ram the Nissan Frontier. The driver of the witness vehicle got out of their car and produced a handgun, ordering the driver of the Nissan Altima to stop their actions. JPD arrived soon afterwards and all parties were temporary detained and interviewed. No further altercations occurred.

It was reported that Aki and the driver of the Nissan Frontier are known to each other and involved in a domestic relationship. Both the Nissan Altima and the Nissan Frontier sustained major damages during the incident. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, Aki was arrested and taken to the jail; all other parties were released at the scene.
