On 07/17/21, at about 2:56 AM, officers on patrol observed a plume of black smoke coming from the 5100 block of Glacier Highway. Upon further investigation, officers located a vehicle fire in a carport, next to a residence. By the time officers arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and loud explosions could be heard coming from the burning vehicle. CCFR responded to the area to put out the fire, while officers closed down parts of the roadway.
CCFR and JPD conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire and determined it appeared to have been intentionally set. Officers located the owner of the vehicle and learned that a nearby security camera had captured images of the the fire and a person of interest was developed. The person of interest is known to the victim and this does not appear to be a random act.
The fire caused about $41,000 in damages to the vehicle, a 2018 Toyota Tacoma. An additional $1,100 in tools and fishing gear was destroyed and the carport where the vehicle was located sustained about $600 in damages.
On 07/19/21, at about 8:45 AM, officers located the person of interest, walking in the 8700 block of Glacier Highway. Officers detained the person, identified as 36-year-old Ryan Patrick Lynch. Lynch was later placed under arrest for Arson 1st degree (DV) and Criminal Mischief 3rd degree (DV). Both charges are crimes of domestic violence. Lynch was taken to the jail and held without bail.
