Summary:

The Juneau Police Department is proud to announce the promotion of Officer Nick Garza to the rank of Sergeant. The promotion ceremony was held at the Juneau Police Department on 10/14/20.

Nick started his public service career as a volunteer firefighter with Benton County Fire District #1 in Kennewick, WA, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant.

In 2005, Nick and his family moved to Craig, Alaska, where he commercial fished and worked to build logging roads until being hired as a Public Safety Technician with the Alaska State Troopers in 2006.

He attended the Alaska Law Enforcement Training Academy in Sitka and graduated in spring 2007. Nick was then hired as a Police Officer by the Craig Police Department where he was employed for 2 years prior to joining the Juneau Police Department in June 2009.

Since coming to JPD, Nick has worked in the following assignments: Patrol, Downtown Walking Beat, Criminal Investigations, and SWAT. He is also a firearms instructor.

Nick was selected as Officer of the Year in 2016. He has been awarded the Life Saving Medal twice, the Outstanding Police Service Medal twice, and the Medal of Valor.

Nick is a great asset to JPD, as well as the community and we look forward to working with him in this new role of Sergeant.
