Subject: Motor Vehicle Crash Damages Two Valley Homes

Summary:

On 09/19/2020, at about 12:08 AM hours, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a single vehicle crash in the 3000 block of Tongass Blvd. The caller reported that a red 2011 Toyota struck a residence, glancing off of it, and then crashed into another residence, causing significant damages. Both residences sustained significant damages and at least one of the residences was occupied when the crash occurred. Nobody inside the homes reported being injured from the crash.

Responding officers located a 17-year-old male at the crash that was believed to be the driver of the vehicle. The 17-year-old male had sustained a cut on his hand during the crash, but the injury was considered minor. The were was no other reports of anyone else being injured from the crash.

The 17-year-old male was suspected of driving under the influence. Following the investigation, the 17-year-old male was released to his parents. Criminal charges against the 17-year-old male will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office, including charges of DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

Alcohol and excessive speed appear to be a factor in the cause of the crash. Initial estimates for the damages of the two homes may exceed $300,000.
