Subject: Vehicle Vandalism

Summary:

On 04/11/20, the Juneau Police Department received an online report of a vehicle being vandalized while parked in the Fred Meyer parking lot. The complainant reported their vehicle was scratched or keyed, while it was left unattended.

JPD Civilian Investigators received the report and began their investigation. Working with Fred Meyer Loss Prevention, they were able to identify several other vehicle vandalisms that occurred in that area, between the dates of 04/08/20 and 04/22/20, with similar circumstances.

During the investigation, a person of interest was identified, a 17-year-old male Juneau resident. The case was then turned over to a Police Officer for further investigation.

The 17-year-old male has been interviewed and his parent's were notified of the allegations of vandalism. This case is being forwarded to the Johnson Youth Center for criminal charges. In total, JPD received seven reports of vehicles being vandalized during this time period, with combined damages estimated at about $16,000.
