INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Stabbing in front of the Transit Center Parking Garage

Summary:

On 07/04/2019, at about 3:35 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a fight in front of the transit center parking garage on Main Street. Officers went to the location and contacted a male and female in an altercation. The male was bleeding from an injury to the left side of his neck, and the female was bleeding from an injury to her right thumb. The male and female were detained and Capital City Fire and Rescue responded to assist.

The investigation revealed that the male and female are known to each other, and had been in a verbal altercation that became physical. During the altercation, it's alleged that the female, identified as 33 year old Juneau resident, Bethany Remi Kunkle, stabbed the male, identified as a 38 year old Juneau resident, once in the left side of the neck. Kunkle sustained a cut wound on her right thumb during the incident. A knife was located in Kunkle's possession.

Capital City Fire and Rescue transported the male to the hospital. The male sustained a potentially life threatening injury to his neck, but he is currently in stable condition.

Kunkle received medical treatment for her injuries and was later placed under arrest for assault in the 1st degree, a class A felony offense. Kunkle was taken to the jail and held without bail.
