The deceased man was identified as 40 year old Jeremy Christian Brinker. His Next of Kin have been notified of his death. Brinker had previously lived in California.

On April 10th, 2019 at about 11:22 in the morning, a man reported he observed a coat in the water about 15 feet from the bank of the Mendenhall River. The man waded into the water and discovered there was a body in the coat and it was wedged on a rock.

Juneau Police Department officers and Capital City Fire/Rescue Special Teams were dispatched to the area near the trailhead across from View Drive.

At about 12:03pm, a JPD officer was able to pull the deceased person to shore. The person has been tentatively identified as an adult male who is not from Alaska. There were no obvious signs of significant trauma to the man’s body.

More information regarding the subject’s identity are expected after results are received from the autopsy that will be performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.  The investigation is ongoing.
