Subject: Man Stops Thief in his Tracks

Summary:

A 38 year old Juneau man noticed a thief going through his belongings in the pool locker room and detained him until police arrived.

On Sunday March 31st, 2019 at around 1:30pm, JPD received a report of a theft and a fight in the men’s locker room at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center. Officers arrived on scene and determined that the victim had just gotten out of the pool and was headed to shower when he noticed a man opened his locker, removing a pair of pants. The suspect removed the victim’s iPhone X cell phone from the pants and put it in his own pocket.

The victim confronted the suspect, put him on the ground and removed several items from the suspect’s pockets including the phone, his own credit card and a library card (later determined to belong to a 15 year old boy).

The victim detained the man until JPD officers arrived on scene. The suspect, identified as 24 year old Christian T. Knapp was arrested for Theft in the 2nd degree, Theft in the 4th degree and Violating Conditions of Release. He was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
