INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Death Investigation at the Juneau Douglas Bridge
Date: 2019-03-26
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #190326-010
Summary:

Death Investigation at the Juneau Douglas Bridge

On 03/26/2019, at about 2:31 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a person going over the side of the Juneau Douglas Bridge. The caller reported they were driving on the bridge when they saw a man standing on the outside railing. The caller said they could no longer see the man, so they stopped to check on him. The caller reported seeing the man on the ground, approximately 100 feet below the bridge, near the tide line.

JPD, CCFR and U.S Coast Guard responded to assist. Witnesses to the incident were first to arrive on scene and started to perform CPR on the man. The man was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses told responding officers that the man was alone when they saw him, and they described the area of the bridge where he was last seen as being on the Douglas side, approximately two thirds of the way from the center of the bridge. Officers estimated the distance from where the man was seen going over the side of the bridge, to the ground, at approximately 100 feet.

The deceased man has been identified as 64 year old Juneau resident, Brian Earl Lupro. Next of kin has been notified. Mr. Lupro's body will be sent to the Alaska Medical Examiner's officer for an autopsy.
