Summary:

****Update 12/03/18****

On 12/02/18, at about 7:48 PM, the Juneau Police Department received information that Micah Nelson was at a residence in the 10000 block of Glacier Highway. Night shift officers from Patrol Team B went to the residence and surrounded it. The officers contacted the occupants inside the residence and confirmed that Nelson was inside. After a brief conversation, Nelson realized there was no escape from the residence, and he turned himself in without further incident. Thankfully, because the officers commented that it was amazingly cold outside.

Nelson was placed under arrest for his warrants and taken to the jail. Criminal charges against Nelson will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office regarding his alleged involvement in the shooting  that took place on Thanksgiving Day.

The Juneau Police Department would like to thank the community for their help in getting Nelson into custody. Since the initial information release, we received several tips and sighting reports by community members.

****Update 11/23/18****

The Juneau Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating 27 year old Juneau resident, Micah Nelson. The police department is wanting to speak with Nelson regarding his alleged involvement with the shooting on Thanksgiving Day. Additionally, Nelson has two felony arrest warrants for probation and parole violations; as well as a $250 misdemeanor arrest warrant out of Anchorage, for failing to appear.

Nelson is considered to be armed with a firearm. The Juneau Police Department is advising everyone that if they see Nelson, not to contact him directly, but call the police department right away.

On 11/22/2018, at about 11:51 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a shooting at a residence in the 1000 block of Coogan drive. The shooting is being investigated and detectives are conducting interviews with witnesses. The victim of the shooting has been identified as a 46 year old male Juneau resident. He sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder, but is currently in stable condition at the hospital. The suspect in the shooting has been identified as a 27 year old male Juneau resident. The suspect is not in custody and his current location is unknown. The name of the suspect is not being released at this time.

Based on initial interviews with witnesses, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident. The victim and suspect are known to each other, and the altercation was in regards to the sale of narcotics.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
