Vigilant Fred Meyer employees help identify forgery suspect.
On 11/05/18, at about 3:15 PM, employees from Fred Meyer reported a man was at their customer service desk and was attempting to cash a stolen check.
Back on 10/12/18, a 74 year old Juneau resident reported her checkbook was stolen from her residence on Postal Way. The victim reported at least three checks had been fraudulently written at businesses around Juneau, totaling $2,549.91.
Upon receiving the report from Fred Meyer, JPD officers quickly responded and located the suspect at the nearby bus stop. The suspect was identified as 25 year old Juneau resident John Langreder.
Officers detained Langreder on suspicion of forgery and two outstanding $50 arrest warrants for failing to appear in court on unrelated criminal charges.
Officers located two stolen checks in Langreder's possession. One check had been written to Fred Meyer in the amount of $200, and the second check was written to another person in the amount of $846. Fred Meyer employees told officers that Langreder had previously been issued a criminal trespass letter from the store.
In addition to the warrants, Langreder was placed under arrest for two counts of forgery in the 2nd degree, two counts of theft in the second degree, fraudulent use of an access device, criminal trespass, and violating conditions of release. Langreder was taken to the jail and held without bail.
The Juneau Police Department would like to thank Fred Meyer for their commitment to making Juneau a safe place to live.
