INFORMATION RELEASE

On 8/14/18, at 6:35 PM, the Juneau Police Department (JPD) received a report that someone had possibly been stabbed and was bleeding from the shoulder, located in the area of the 1900 block of Lemon Creek Road.

JPD and CCFR responded to the area and located two males that had sustained injuries due to being assaulted. One of the victims, identified as a 39 year old male Juneau resident had an injury to his arm that was consistent with being stabbed or cut. The other victim, identified as a 44 year old male Juneau resident, had sustained an injury to his head after being hit with a blunt object. The victims reported they were both assaulted by twenty five year old Juneau resident, Kurtis Detemple.

Witnesses reported to police that earlier that same evening, the 44 year old male and Detemple had been in an altercation, regarding the allegation of stolen shoes. Detemple later entered the residence of the 44 year old male and struck him in the head with a blunt object. The 39 year old male attempted to break up the fight and was then stabbed by Detemple, with a knife.

Detemple was located inside the residence and arrested for assault 1st degree, a class A felony and assault in the 2nd degree, a class B felony. Detemple was taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held without bail. A knife, believed to have been used in the stabbing was seized by police as evidence.

The 39 year old male was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and later air lifted to Seattle for further medical attention. The 39 year old male is currently stable and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time. The 44 year old male was also transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and later released.
