With the beautiful weather forecast over the 3rd and 4th of July, the Juneau Police Department anticipates a lot of people will be participating in the holiday festivities.
There will be extra staff working the evening of the 3rd through the early morning hours of the 5th. Many scheduled activities including fireworks, the parades and the events in Douglas will create a high volume of people congregating in these areas and a substantial increase in traffic.
We encourage all citizens and visitors to celebrate safely. If you are driving to and from parties, don’t drink alcoholic beverages, ensure everyone is wearing a safety belt and avoid distractions. Take care to observe no-parking zones along the parade routes. Pedestrians are reminded to watch for motorists and cross roadways at designated crosswalks.
If you choose to discharge concussive fireworks, use them safely and observe all CBJ guidelines related to their use. Depending on the situation, failure to obey the laws may result in fines, citations, or arrests for Disturbing the Peace or Disorderly Conduct.
Along with regular patrols and extra focus in areas with planned events, there will be multiple officers focused on DUI enforcement throughout the borough over the next few days. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday and observes practices to help us keep our community safe.
