INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Robbery at Home Depot
Date: 2018-05-23
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #180522-006
Summary:

On 05/22/18, at 2:43 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a shoplifter at Home Depot that had assaulted store employees. Officers responded to the area of Home Depot, but the suspect had already left and was not located.

Store employees reported they attempted to stop a man who was suspected of shoplifting, after the man left the store with a shopping cart containing about $400 worth of unpaid merchandise.

There was a short struggle between the suspect and store employees over the shopping cart. A customer from the store who was watching the incident grabbed a hold of the suspect to detain him.

During the incident, store employees said the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened them with it. The suspect then ran down the hill along the back side of Home Depot and was seen getting into a blue extended cab GMC pickup, with black rims.

The suspect in the robbery was described as being either an Alaskan Native or Hispanic male, about 5'8" tall and weighing approximately 220 pounds, wearing a black wind breaker and having a pony tail.

Store employees identified another person in the store who they believed was associated with the robbery suspect. Officers contacted the person still inside Home Depot. That person was identified as 25 year old Juneau resident, William Eric Moy Jr.

Officers learned that Moy was in possession of unpaid store merchandise which was concealed under his clothing. Moy was placed under arrest for concealment of merchandise, a class B misdemeanor. Moy was taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
