INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Memorial Day and High School Graduation Weekend
Date: 2018-05-23
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #
Summary:

The Memorial Day and high school graduation weekend starts this Friday, May 25th, through Monday, May 28th.

This is a great time for families to have fun, celebrate together and give thanks for all that they have. Unfortunately, it is often a weekend that is known for being one of the deadliest holidays for car crashes.

The Juneau Police Department would like for everyone to have fun, but do so while being safe. Remember, obey the speed limit, drink responsibly, and don't drive a vehicle if you are consuming alcohol or other controlled substances.

During this weekend, the Juneau Police Department will be deploying additional officers to provide police presence and security during graduation ceremonies, and patrols out the road on Glacier Highway, Thane Road, North Douglas Highway and other areas often utilized by partygoers for outdoor activities.

The JPD Mobile Command Post will be in operation in the area of Eagle Beach from Saturday evening until Monday morning, as a visible reminder of the increased police presence in the area.

Our goal is to discourage underage drinking along with drinking and driving. With the community’s help, we can make Juneau a safer place.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
