INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Downtown Vandalism
Date: 2018-04-02
From: Lieutenant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #180401-001
Summary:

On 04/01/2018, at around 1:46AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of several businesses in the downtown area that had been vandalized, by having windows broken with rocks. The following businesses were identified by police as having been vandalized.

-Red Dog Saloon
-Northern Treasures
-Taqueria
-Downtown Public Library
-Port Electronics
-Marine View Apartments
-E&M Oriental Store

The combined damages are estimated to be between $8,000 to $12,000. Most of the business owners were notified of the damages to their stores, but some were unable to be reached. CBJ building maintenance assisted with boarding up the windows for the businesses that couldn't be notified.

During the investigation a suspect in the vandalism was identified as 25 year old Juneau resident, Monte Nix.

Nix was contacted later in the day and arrested on three counts of criminal mischief in the 3rd degree, a class C felony and one count of criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor. Nix was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held without bail. Additional criminal charges are pending.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in this case.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
