On 02/17/2018, at 8:16PM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a burglary in progress at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, located at 1600 Renninger Drive.
Officers responded to the school and contacted 34 year old Juneau resident, Shawn T. Beaird, inside the building. Beaird attempted to flee and resist officers, but he was eventually detained.
Investigation showed that Beaird had forcibly entered the school, damaged property inside the school which is estimated to be valued at about $4,500, and stolen a small amount of cash.
Beaird was arrested and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Beaird is charged with burglary 2nd degree, a class C felony, criminal mischief 3rd degree, a class C felony, theft 4th degree, a class B misdemeanor, and violating conditions of release.
Beaird had been on conditions of release from the jail for a prior arrest from 1/19/2018. That arrest was also related to burglary, in which he was charged with three counts of burglary 2nd degree, two counts of criminal mischief 3rd degree, one count criminal mischief 4th degree, one count of theft 3rd degree, and one count of theft 4th degree.
