On 02/03/18, at 3:11 AM, the Juneau Police Department received a 911 call regarding a disturbance at a residence in the 300 block of Gastineau Ave. The caller reported the disturbance was between his neighbors, that it sounded to be physical, and that someone might have been stabbed.
JPD Officers went to the residence where the disturbance was reported and located a 28 year old male Juneau resident. The male was bleeding from his torso and left arm; the injuries were consistent with being stabbed. Also in the residence they located 40 year old Juneau resident, Melanie Whalen.
The 28 year old male was taken to the hospital by CCFR. Although the male's injuries are serious, he is currently in stable condition.
The investigation showed that the 28 year old male and Whalen are known to each other and the disturbance was a domestic dispute. A knife that was believed to have been used in the assault was located inside the residence.
Whalen was arrested for Assault 1st degree and taken to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center and held without bail. Assault 1st degree is a class A felony.
