On January 19th, 2018, at approximately 8:00AM, the Juneau Police Department received a report of a male subject attempting to forcibly break into the back door of a business, located in the 2000 block of Jordan Ave.
Officers responded to the area, but the suspect was not immediately located. Officers met with the business owner who was able to confirm that the rear door of the building had been broken into. The rear door is a shared entrance, that leads into three different businesses.
Officers canvassed the area and learned that two of the three businesses had been forcibly entered. The two businesses that had been entered reported only cash had been taken. One of the businesses reported about $2,000 worth of property damage was done to the inside of the business, where the cash had been taken from.
Shortly afterwards, responding officers saw a subject in the area that matched the description of the suspect from the burglary. The subject was seen getting into a blue 2000 Cadillac and leaving the area. Officers located the vehicle driving on Del Rae Road and conducted a traffic stop.
A passenger in the vehicle was identified as 35 year old Juneau resident Shawn Travis Beaird. Beaird matched the description of the suspect who was seen breaking into businesses. Beaird was detained for questioning. The driver of the vehicle, and the vehicle were released.
Beaird was placed under arrest for three counts of burglary 2nd degree, two counts of criminal mischief 3rd degree, one count of criminal mischief 4th degree, and two counts of theft 4th degree. All cash stolen from the businesses was recovered and Beaird was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center, where he was held without bail.
