On Friday, July 7th, 2017, at about 1:45 pm, JPD officers arrested David V. Evenson. Evenson has been lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center on a charge of Murder 2nd degree (an unclassified felony), Manslaughter (an A felony) and Criminally Negligent Homicide (a B felony). Evenson is being held without bail.

On Friday June 30th, 2017 at about 12:59 pm, JPD received a 9-1-1 call reporting a male had kicked another man in the head outside of the Downtown Transit Center. Capital City Fire Rescue and police officers were dispatched. When the first police officers arrived on scene, the victim was lying on the ground unconscious. The suspect had fled the scene prior to the officer?s arrival. While the first two officers provided care for the victim, other officers began an investigation and canvas of the area.
The victim was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital by ambulance and was later medically evacuated to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for advanced trauma treatment. The assault victim, identified as 56 year old Juneau resident Aaron G. Monette, was pronounced deceased the evening of July 4th. Next of kin has been notified.
The suspect has been identified as 51 year old Juneau resident David V. Evenson. Evenson has not been contacted by the police and the investigation remains open. A photograph of Evenson is attached to this press release.
