INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: 4th of July Activities
Date: 06-28-17
From: Lt David Campbell
Case or Incident: #N/A
Summary:

For the 2017, 4th of July holiday, JPD is increasing patrol activities. For July 1st and 2nd, Patrol is fully staffed and extra officers are being deployed. July 3rd and 4th are typically the busiest days of the year for JPD. Therefore, every JPD officer, from the Chief to the newest patrol officer, will be working in some capacity during these two days.

The use of fireworks that make noise, south of Cohen Drive, is normally a violation of the CBJ Disturbing the Peace ordinance. However, using salable fireworks is legal on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th from 10:00 AM through 1:00 AM the following day. Never use fireworks in a manner that could harm another person or damage property. Children should not be allowed to play with fireworks and, in general, should be taught fire safety.

JPD will be actively patrolling for impaired drivers. Extra officers will be working over the weekend as part of a DUI enforcement grant specifically aimed at finding impaired drivers. Drivers are cautioned to not drive after consuming alcohol or marijuana, but instead use taxi or a designated driver.

JPD has not received any threats about the holiday weekend. As always, citizens are encouraged to contact JPD if they see suspicious activities. If you see something, say something.

JPD hopes that everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July holiday weekend.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
