Memorial Day and graduation weekend has concluded without any serious accidents in Juneau. The Juneau Police Department provided extra enforcement to locate intoxicated drivers, drivers violating the speed limit, not wearing seatbelts or violating other traffic laws. A portion of the funding for extra enforcement was provided through a grant from the State of Alaska Highway Safety Office.
During the weekend, JPD officers conducted 39 traffic stops, resulting in 26 traffic infraction citations being issued, one DWI arrest and one minor consuming citation. Four motor vehicle accidents were reported, none involved injuries.
JPD responded to 218 calls from the public and in addition to the 39 traffic stops, officers generated another 116 incidents for officer initiated activity.
Officers spent time patrolling areas frequently used for underage drinking parties by minors. We are thankful for the community members and parents that spent time chaperoning safe and healthy events.
