Case or Incident: #170522-005
On 05/22/2017, at approximately 4:51 PM, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game were conducting debris removal from the Gastineau Channel in the area of Sandy Beach. The dredging activities pulled a human leg and boot out of the channel.
A JPD officer responded to the area and took possession of the leg and boot. The leg was subsequently sent to the State Medical Examiner?s Office for potential identification.
The condition of the leg made it difficult to determine who it might have come from, or how long the leg might have been in the water.
The investigation is continuing.
All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues.
