The Juneau Police Department will be deploying a team to work out the road this Memorial Day/Graduation weekend. Officers are working overtime, giving up their own holiday activities, to try and make sure the long weekend ends with no new memorials planned and with teenagers safely taking their next steps in life.
JPD officers will be doing patrols out the road starting Friday and will continue until early morning on Monday. They hope to discourage underage drinking along with drinking and driving. The JPD Mobile Command Post will be in operation at Eagle Beach from Saturday evening until Monday morning.
The weather is supposed to be nice so we expect lots of people to be recreating out the road this weekend. If you are one of those people, please feel free to stop by the Mobile Incident Command Post for a hotdog or hamburger. Also, if you see suspicious activity that indicates there is underage drinking or drinking and driving, please report that behavior at the Command Post.
