Date: 2017-05-15
From: Sgt. Chris Gifford
Case or Incident: #170515-001
Summary:

JPD responded to a vehicle vs. bicycle collision at the intersection of Glacier Highway and Davis Avenue. The investigation revealed the bicyclist, a 34 year-old female, was riding inbound in the outbound bicycle lane when she collided with a truck driven by a 35 year-old male. The truck had been turning right from Davis Avenue onto Glacier Highway.

The bicyclist was cited for riding against traffic. She was treated for minor injuries at the Bartlett Regional Hospital.

The Juneau Police Department would like to remind bicyclists to follow all traffic laws when riding on the roadway, and to yield to pedestrians when riding on the shared multi-use paths and sidewalks. Bicycling is prohibited on the sidewalks in the Downtown Business District. Also, riders should wear a helmet and brightly colored clothing to make themselves visible to other motorists.

All factual allegations contained in this release are based upon preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in this release are merely accusations and all persons named in this release are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
