Subject: Motor vehicle crash into residence
Date: 2017-05-13
From: Sergeant Krag Campbell
Case or Incident: #170512-017
Summary:

On May 12th, 2017 at 10:21PM, the Juneau Police Department received multiple 911 calls regarding a blue Dodge Caravan that had driven off the roadway, striking a house, in the area of Mendenhall Loop Road and Grant Street.

Witnesses to the crash said they saw the driver climb out of the vehicle and run from the area on foot. Witnesses followed the man and watched him climb underneath a trailer at a nearby residence.

JPD Officers arrived in the area and contacted the man hiding under the trailer. The man was identified as 50 year old Lance Cesar.

The residence that was struck by the Dodge Caravan sustained significant damages. The vehicle first hit an attached shed and then pushed in a wall to the main residence. Items in the shed also appeared to be damaged due to the crash.

There was no immediate report of injuries to anyone that had been at the house when it was struck by the vehicle. One resident later went to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation.

The investigation of the crash showed that Cesar had been operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Cesar was arrested for DWI and for Immediate Notice, for failing to provide immediate notice of the motor vehicle crash. DWI and Immediate Notice are both Class A Misdemeanors.

Cesar later provided a breath sample to determine his level of intoxication. Cesar?s breath sample was 0.227%. Cesar was lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
