INFORMATION RELEASE

Subject: Gun Shot Wound
Date: 2017-04-18
From: Sgt. Brian Dallas
Case or Incident: #170418-001
Summary:

On April 17, 2017, at about 11:18 PM, the Juneau Police Department received a 911 call reporting a loud ?bang? and a male lying on the floor screaming in the Wharf Building.

On arrival, officers located a 19 year male who was lying on the ground and in significant pain from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his leg. Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to treat the male, who was later transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Subsequent investigation indicated that a 22 year old male was in the Wharf trying to sell a handgun. The 19 year old male said he was interested in purchasing the handgun and the two males examined the handgun, which was loaded. During the handling of the weapon, the firearm discharged, striking the 19 year old in the leg.

Officers located and spoke with all individuals associated with this case as well as locating the firearm involved. No other persons were injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Alcohol was a factor in this case.
